Standing Firm in God’s Word

Yesterday’s reading comes from 2 Thessalonians 1-3.  Here’s what I journaled –

Scripture –
2 Thessalonians 2:15 – With all these things in mind, dear brothers and sisters, stand firm and keep a strong grip on the teaching we passed on to you both in person and by letter.

Observation –
In this letter to the Thessalonians, Paul shares a good bit with them about the second coming of Jesus.  After a section where he shares his thoughts on this, we find the verse for today.  That because of all that he has shared with them, they should stay strong and keep on believing the scriptural truths they had been taught.

Application –
If I’m to “stand firm” and “keep a strong grip” I have to spend time reading God’s Word.  I’ve got to not only read it, but seek to understand it.  I need to move beyond understanding it to apply it to my life.  Then, no matter what comes my way – I must stand firm in the truth of God’s Word.  All too often, we allow our own sinful nature, the influence of others, the busyness of our lives, etc. to interfere with standing firm.

Prayer –
God, Thank You for the truth that is found in Your Word.  Thank You for giving it to us so that we could know You better.  Now, help me to truly stand firm in it.  Help me to live it out in such a way that it is obvious to those around me.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
